About Our Church

Odin FBC History

Odin First Baptist has been serving Jesus and the Odin community for over 110 years.

While pastor's have come and gone, OFBC has been a mainstay in the community, ministering to those in need and keeping the gospel at the forefront.

The Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020 allowed the church to evaluate its ministries and implement some new ideas for ministry. Those ideas were approved by the church and are being implemented today.

Keeping
the Faith

OFBC adheres to the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message. We believe that Salvation is by grace through faith, that water baptism follows Biblical Salvation as an act of obedience, and that the Great Commission is our command to reach the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Spiritual
Community

OFBC partners with the churches of the Kaskaskia Baptist Association, the Illinois Baptist State Association, and the Southern Baptist Convention.

We also share in ministry with our local churches by joining together for Easter Sunrise Services and Thanksgiving Services. While we know there are some doctrinal differences in our neighboring churches, we find common ground to show unity in our community.

HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER OF ODIN FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH

The first step to becoming a member of OFBC is to confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior

A Biblical New Testament church consists of those who have repented of their sins and received Jesus’ forgiveness for their sins.

Once a person has been “born again” they may join the church through baptism

A person who has been saved and baptized may join OFBC by transfer of membership from another Southern Baptist Church

A person may also join OFBC by “statement of faith” if they have been saved and were scripturally baptized.

“Statement of Faith” is a person’s testimony of their Salvation and Scriptural Baptism.

A membership class is offered to anyone wishing to become a member of OFBC. Pastor Roger teaches about the beliefs and ministries of OFBC and how a person can be connected to the church

HOW TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN

At OFBC we believe that salvation is by Grace alone,
through Faith alone, in Christ Alone!
Ephesians 2:1-13

We believe that God has provided a well-marked
pathway to eternal life through his Word.

SALVATION IS NEEDED BY EVERYONE

The Fact of Sin - "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." - Romans 3:23
The Consequences of Sin - "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."        - Romans 6:23

SALVATION HAS BEEN PROVIDED FOR EVERYONE

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." - John 3 :16
"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." - John 14:6

SALVATION MUST BE RECEIVED AND ACCEPTED

Repentance Is Required: (turn from your sin to God) "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord." - Acts 3:19
Faith is Necessary: (depend totally on God) "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved." Acts 16:31

You can be saved today if you turn from your sin and,
in faith, ask Jesus to forgive and save you!

"Nor is there salvation in any other for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." - Acts 4:12

If you want to be saved, Pray and ask Jesus to be your Savior. Pray something similar to this:

"Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I know I have chosen to disobey you, but here and now, I ask you to forgive me as I repent of my sins. I believe you died on the cross for my sins. I believe you rose from the dead for me, and I ask you to save me as I commit my life to you right now as my Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name. Amen."
